This class will have an open forum of bodywork, and you will trade with what you know and practice. This class is geared for massage therapists, yoga teachers, oriental therapists (such as acupuncturists), herbalists, physical therapists, or manual therapists. This class is taught by Pierce Salguero, owner and director of the Tao Mountain Association. Pierce studied and taught at the Shivagokomarpaj Traditional Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai from 1997 to 2001. His expertise and continued studies encompass Traditional Thai Medicine, Southeast Asia History and Medicine, and Theravada Buddhism. Pierce's devotion to indigenous medicine reflects an environment of compassion and appreciation. This course can be offered only once a year and we encourage you to share in this opportunity.
Theravada Buddhism
Immerse yourself in the rich spiritual practice of Theravada Buddhism and Meditation. This 16-hour class introduces the history and philosophy surrounding the origins of Buddhism, from the birth in India to the Western movement. Participate in many different meditations, such as Samatha breathing and Vipassana meditation, to guide your own practice and enrich your inner self. This class is taught by Pierce Salguero.

Upon completion of any one class, all students will be granted authentic membership in the prestigious Shivagokomarpaj Lineage. Students will also receive a free personal invitational membership in the Tao Mountain Association, with full access to the TM member area and online forum.

A 5-day course on Asian medical history, anthropology, and religious studies for practitioners of traditional Asian medicine. This five-day lecture course is equivalent in content covered to a college-level course.

•Overview of animistic and demonological ideas of medicine and shamanism in India, China, and S.E. Asia
•Overview of Indo-European humoralism in the Greek and Ayurvedic traditions
•Intro to ancient Greek medicine (Hippocrates, Galen), and continuations in Middle Eastern traditional medicine (Unani)

Day 4 — Southeast Asia
•History of medicine in Southeast Asia
•Thai medicine and its connections with Ayurveda
•Thai and Khmer spiritual healing (modern-day shamans and animism)
Day 5 — Modern Traditional Asian Medicine
•Colonialism and traditional medicine: the repression of tradition in the 18th-19th centuries
•Nationalism and the revitalization of traditional medicine in the 19th-20th century in India, China, and Thailand
•"Modern traditional medicine": the combination of science and tradition
